The echo of your childhood is always present. While you may not notice it, you may in fact be influenced by the child that you have tried to outgrow when growing up. Think about those decisions that you have made, and couldn’t quite understand later on why you had taken that decision and not another, perhaps a more suitable one. There are little bits of the little you within yourself that influence you despite your conscious thought of being in charge.
I am not going to talk about this further, just a mention of it so that it can make you think what |
The reason I am writing about this is to have you think about your past for a while. The time when you were able to play. Can you remember any of those days? Are you able to revive some of the joyful memories nowadays and permit yourself to play on daily basis? If not, why is it not an option for you anymore? Is your work taking all your positive energy away, and the younger people in your life simply sound too loud for you to mix with them or to try to find a good connection with them?
Instead, I proposed a few activities and nothing was interesting enough for him… until I found it! His preferred game that isn’t at all something I wished to play that day or another. It involves the investments and a banker. When I mentioned it he immediately jumped in such an enthusiasm that it stroke me how I couldn’t think of this before. Why didn’t I? Because I wasn’t keen on the game. As a child I dreaded Monopoly game that had the same effect on me, so I preferred to avoid it.
By focusing on what is important to him at this stage of life I have made the right choice. We played and I made my efforts to enjoy the moment. It became a fantastic experience. I made a special connection with that game and we repeated the experience the next day. He enjoyed it. I was ready to laugh and pay attention to the details that I found always a little boring. We laughed, we joked and we competed for fun. What an experience! My energy came back too.
It is striking how easily we get down to the seriousness of our lives and overlook the creativity and playfulness. We all have it somewhere within. I still use it quite a lot when I take the scooter to the gym. The ride makes me feel like I am flying towards the studio. It is so liberating to let myself travel by that same thing I used as a child, and not worrying that someone will judge me for that.
How about you? Is your life filled with this kind of energizing moments? Do you have plenty of ideas on how to bring more sparkle to your life? How many times a day do you give your ego a time out and let yourself just laugh at yourself or with others, enjoying the present moment and leave your routine chores on hold?
The older we get the more we tend to associate playfulness with childhood, fearing that we aren’t getting the merits as adults if we show the world our brighter side.
Why is it in your best interest to be more spontaneous, expressive, fun, and even silly? Because your decision to engage in playful activities and enjoy entertainment will bring you more benefits than you could ever imagine. You may just open the door to experience of better quality of life, better creativity and positive attitude at your work setting which may lead you to higher job satisfaction and increase your work performance.
When you are able to laugh and make others laugh, your experience of joy will be abundant. Your social life and other aspects of your private life will change into era of more energy and motivation that will be seen by those around you. With each step that you take towards exploring this particular way of life you may get more taste for adventures and feeling of happiness in the moments that you would never expect before. So, go ahead and connect with your Playful Self. While on your way, encourage others to bring the bright side of their lives in front as well.
